September 25, 2006, Halifax, Nova Scotia – With the epidemic of diabetes and
shingles, it is important that new treatments are available for people suffering with the
pain related due to nerve damage. More importantly, access to new treatment is
paramount.

Origin BioMed Inc., a Halifax based manufacturer of over-the-counter topical drug
products, has partnered with Canada’s largest drug store chain to provide people
suffering from diabetic neuropathy and shingles pain with its topical pain relief product,
Neuragen.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with Shoppers Drug Mart,” said Wayne
Miller, Director of Sales and Marketing of Origin BioMed.  ”Our partnership allows us to
offer Neuragen to a greater number of people in need of neuropathic pain relief.”

According to the Canadian Diabetes Association, more than two million Canadians have
diabetes. By the end of the decade, this number is expected to rise to three million.
(http://www.diabetes.ca/section_about/prevalence.asp). Diabetes Neuropathy occurs
when high blood sugar levels damage nerves, producing symptoms in approximately
40% of diabetics.  Mostly it affects the hands and feet, with symptoms of numbness,
tingling and pain, but can include burning and cold sensations.  Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
can leave lasting and painful nerve damage at the site of outbreak.

According to Miller, “Shoppers Drug Mart plans to launch Neuragen this fall in its Atlantic
Canadian stores with a future plan to introduce the pain relief product nationally into the
whole chain by January 2007.”
